VERGE Art Fair Miami Beach
represented by Galerie CP Cerny, Wiesbaden Germany
The Catalina Hotel, 1732 Collins Ave
December 3-6 2009
Verge is an international platform for the most exciting and interesting in new and emerging art. Verge exists to establish boundaries of the extraordinary as a counter to the natural compulsion towards stagnation in the way art is evaluated and delivered to the public. Staying true to this necessary state for the advancement of art requires a sustained focus on the best new ideas and practices of those marginal or newly emerging to international art audiences. The satisfaction of this fixed requirement for a healthy and competitive artistic culture is at the core of Verge as an international exposition of the highest quality artistic production and the galleries, museums and audiences who sustain it.

"Mission accomplished" at the art Karlsruhe
"Now the fair is perfect," says exhibition curator and project manager Ewald Karl Schrade enthusiastically about the course of the sixth KARLSRUHE. "40,200 visitors, more than five percent more than last year, were recorded in 2009. Another increase in visitors - another increase in quality. It has once again proven that cautious growth and continuous fine-tuning of quality and service pay off". Gallery owners and visitors are enthusiastic about the "most beautiful and largest gallery in southern Germany". The fact that this is also reflected in the sales of the art dealers is another positive result in 2009. The vernissage already set an example. Minister of State for Culture Bernd Neumann caused a sensation by announcing that next year the Federal Purchasing Commission will head for Karlsruhe. This puts the fair on a route with Basel, Berlin, Cologne and London.
The celebrities also met. In addition to the CEO of Porsche AG, Wendelin Wiedeking, the art collector Rüdiger Hurrle and Manfred Eichel, the long-time presenter of the ZDF cultural programme Aspekte, were on site. Greats from the museum landscape such as Frankfurt Städel director Max Hollein and ZKM director Peter Weibel were at the fair, and collector and museum director Frieder Burda admired Thitz's new "Nebel" works. Klaus Schrenk, then director of the Thitz exhibition at the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe and now director of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, also remained loyal to the site and travelled from Munich. (press release on the art Karlsruhe).
Since the beginning of the fair 2004 this was the 6th Thitz one-man-show in a row ! However, the success of his work cannot be reduced to pure market development. From the very beginning, gallery owner Jörg Rothamel and Thitz took this fair seriously. In 2009, they presented a compilation of the very latest works and series at Art Karlsruhe to collectors and interested parties. Almost all works of the opening presentation were sold again. Among them the 2-part " NY invisible" (280 x 160 cm) and some new medium-format works.
One of the reasons why Art Karlsruhe is becoming increasingly attractive is that many customers from Germany and abroad have once again travelled here. After the "incipient consolidation", as the speculative bubble in the art market was called, it had already been expected in advance that the trend at Art Karlsruhe would continue, away from speculative, fashionable "schools" towards independent, technically mature artist positions. A trend that artists like Thitz have been observing for several months. "However, despite all the optimism, I would not have expected to sell 6 large-format multiples in such a short time," says Thitz. For example, mostly larger corporations have bought, but also private collections.
Currently Jörk Rothamel could sell the especially large "Bag City" picture (2x4m) to the collection OETKER. In addition, Alp Galleries New York has just ordered 5 new works for one of their collectors.
