Joan Miró and Thitz's homage to Miró 

 14 July to 16 September 2018  

opening of the exhibition Juan Miró with Thitz's Hommage a Miró in the Cabinet Hall of the Museum on July 13, 2018 at 5 pm. 

"When I took my first steps into the art world as an art student in Barcelona and a reverent visitor to the Miro Foundation, I could only dream of being exhibited together with Joan Miro in the museum once," says Thitz. 

"Catalonia was the home of Joan Miró and the second focal point of the life of the painter and object artist Thitz (*1962 in Frankfurt am Main). Miró was born in Barcelona in 1893 and buried there after his death in 1983. Thitz came to the city in 1989 to study art. He enrolled with Joan Hernández Pijuan at the Facultad de bellas Artes. Pijuan and Miró had known each other and exhibited together several times, for example at the Fundación Juan March in Madrid in 1975. Catalan art - as well as his way of life - impressed the young German artist and left clear traces in his work.

Like Miró, Thitz likes to relieve art of the weight that generations of serious interpreters put on it. Respect is directed to its natural limits, the eyes open. The art experience functions barrier-free again. As with Miró, his playful attitude is based on technical adeptness and an attentive perception of being.

On his extensive travels, Thitz collects artefacts from urban cultures - and what better way to depict civilization than shopping bags? Thitz integrates them into his cityscapes, and their flaps turn into ripcords for jumping out of sober reality into hidden dimensions. Bags from all over the world lie under his paintings, a fascinating network of associative thoughts unfolds in ever new overpaintings and overdrawings in acrylic and ink. The colours begin to shine; future, past and present merge; thousands of figures populate facades, seas of houses, water surfaces and even the sky.

On show are graphic works, works on paper and bibliophilic books by Juan Miró and canvases selected in the cabinet from the Utopian Civilzations series by the artist Thitz as a tribute á Miró . 
An Atlantis reloaded - where one can move freely by means of "AirPod" and drift between vegetable and constructed habitats. A voyage of discovery that, beyond CO2 and diesel scandals, leads to unusual insights through the newly gained submarine urbanity in the cool and (again) clear ocean.  Whether Shanghai's Oriental Pearl Tower was only reproduced in a museum or preserved post-Cataclytic remains just as open as the technically feasible. The nice thing about utopia, however, is that dreaming is not only allowed here, but also obligation!  And this is exactly how he paints THITZ!
